What Is Anastrozole and When Is It Prescribed?

The aromatase inhibitor that controls estrogen — but only when bloodwork says so.

What it does

Anastrozole blocks aromatase — the enzyme that converts testosterone into estradiol. It's used in men on TRT when estradiol climbs too high.

Why high E2 matters

Estradiol that's too high can cause bloating, mood swings, lower libido, and water retention. Too low is worse — joint pain, libido crash, bone density loss.

How we dose

Low-dose, intermittent. Often 0.25mg–1mg one or two times per week. Crash-low estrogen is dangerous; aggressive dosing is wrong.

Bloodwork drives it

We don't prescribe anastrozole blind. Estradiol levels justify it. Re-check after 4–6 weeks.
