GLP-1 Side Effects: What's Normal vs. What to Watch For

Every patient asks. Here's what to expect, what's manageable, and when to call your care team.

The expected: GI

Mild-to-moderate nausea, occasional reflux, and constipation are the most common side effects — especially during titration weeks. Eat slowly, smaller portions, hydrate aggressively.

Manageable strategies

Take with light food, avoid heavy/fatty meals, hydrate. Most GI side effects fade within 7–10 days of each new dose.

Less common

Headache, fatigue, injection-site irritation. Usually transient.

Call your care team if

Severe abdominal pain (rule out pancreatitis), persistent vomiting, signs of dehydration, or any sudden vision changes. Rare — but worth knowing.
